Meet Erica L. Hawes
Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica L. Hawes.
Erica, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey as a Massage Therapist started in 2009. I graduated high school in May and entered into massage therapy school in September 2009. My ultimate goal was to become a licensed massage therapist to pay my way through college to pursue a doctorate as a Chiropractor, Physical Therapist, or Alternative Medicine. I knew I wanted to pursue a doctorate in some form of Alternative Medicine since my 9th grade year. I also knew that it would be a long journey ahead with the years that it takes to complete that degree. I am independent, so I decided that I would become a massage therapist to work to support myself while attending college.
After graduating from massage therapy school, taking and passing my state board exam, I obtained my massage therapy license in 2010. I did not go to college as I had planned. I decided to open up a small massage therapy office (GA MASSAGE SPA by ERICA) in Augusta, Georgia to build my clientele. I was located next to a Chiropractors office. I was also doing outbound massage therapy services which included the Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah area. After a little over a year, I closed my office, moved to Savannah, GA to attend college to pursue my degree. I realized that my talents as a massage therapist kept me extremely busy and my pursuit for a degree was put on hold again, I am quite fond of the specialties that massage therapy entails. Massage Therapy is considered a complementary alternative medicine and is very lucrative. I travel throughout the state of Georgia to render my services. I specialize in most aspects of massage therapy for health and wellness in collaboration with businesses, events, health fairs, medical and sports. Lymphatic massage is my specialty and one of the most therapeutic massages in demand due to its medical necessity. I receive a tremendous amount of gratitude and respect for helping people in pain. I enjoy my profession as a massage therapist and I will continue to bestow my therapeutic relief of pain and promote wellness. I have plans to further my massage therapy endeavors. So please, keep a watch and an ear open for GA Massage Spa, Erica L. Hawes, LMT. GAMASSAGESPA@GMAIL.COM 706 250-1542 WWW.GAMASSAGESPA.ABMP.COM
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road but a road worth traveling. I have not completed my doctorate degree. I am trying to run a small business and work hard to make sure my business and my name keep its integrity. Starting, I faced a few obstacles stemming from massage therapy having a reputation or being mistaken for an unprofessional and disrespected profession. I’ve also come across people who are still prejudiced. But the most challenging struggle was trying to accept, deal with, and continue on without giving up on a profession that I so enjoy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
GA Massage Spa started as a GA Massage Spa by ERICA in 2010. With the help of my mother, Carla Lewis-Hawes, LMT and my grandmother, the late Julia M. Lewis, I became the proud owner of my own business at the age of 19. I am a professional licensed massage therapist. I travel all across Georgia to render my services as a massage therapist, mostly to companies, businesses, events, health fairs, sporting events, and medical. I pride myself on the use of natural and organic products, which also set my company apart from others. I specialize in all aspects of massage therapy, especially lymphatic massage. If there is a technique that a client prefers, I pride myself on taking classes to add to my business. Chair or table massages are used at the client’s preference.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an obedient child. I’m the oldest of three and the only girl. I liked reading more than going outside to play. I would always ask questions if I needed too. I’ve been told that I am thoughtful, courteous, kind and loving. I love to laugh, smile, and just all around happy. I love to make others smile. I try to help others when I can. I follow the rules and directions and try to abide by them. My personality is carefree and caring. I’ve been told that my aura is energetic. I grew up with both parents and I was a happy child.
